America: Continent or Country
This post is due to October 12th, known as: Día de la Raza (Day of the Race), Día de la Hispanidad (Hispanic Day), Columbus Day in the United States and Día de la Resistencia Indígena (Day of Indigenous Resistance) in Venezuela.
My main concern is how people use the name America to refer to a country and not the continent.... it's just wrong!!! Only with a simple mathematical concept of Group Theory, an element within a sub-group within a group, where sub-group is not equal to a group. For example: City - State - Country - Continent
Therefore, I consider myself: Maracaibian - Zullian - Venezuelan - American So, I am an American, but not a Gringo :-))
Finally, I think we have 2 options in order to move forward:
* Call the country of USA = Gringoland or something else
* Give the continent a new name
All comments/suggestions are welcome.
